So far the *8 Weeks to Wellness Challenge* has been incredible! I have had the honor of working some of the most remarkable women, who are all making strides in changing the way they think about themselves, their bodies, and food FOREVER!
This challenge began with so many SIMPLE inspirations and I am so grateful to have such a wonderful group of supporters and friends. You all give me such incredible ideas on a daily basis! Special Thanks to Maryellen for the Wellness Challenge Idea! And also to my good friend Tanya who has been added inspiration with her successful studio on the Northshore (if you are ever in Danvers or Andover please give her a visit!)
Part of this Wellness Challenge requires that all participants log their foods everyday. Yes, EVERYDAY and EVERY SINGLE THING they eat. They are held accountable for the amount of healthy/non-healthy foods they are eating and each of them has a separate goal based on their age, weight and height. Each person is measured in 7 different places on Day 1, Day 30 and Day 60. Before and After pictures are also taken.
Each one of these remarkable women are required to meditate, pray, find peace and serenity in the daily stresses of their lives--yes through work, school, children, household chores and the list goes on... Part of the challenge also requires them to wear a pedometer where they log at least 10,000 Steps Per Day= 5 Miles. They are 100% required to get these steps in as it is a CRUCIAL part of the challenge. What exactly does this do? It allows you to realize, "Oh my Gosh, I've only walked a measly 1,000 steps today..." It allows you to see how much physical activity you are engaging in.
So many of us have long commutes or office/desk-jobs. It can be difficult to motivate yourself to get those steps in, but with the challenge--these ladies have been posting pictures of their morning 10-minute walks (which logs about 2k steps might I add in just 10 minutes!) Holding yourself accountable makes an HUGE difference. Each person knows the consequences of failing to meet their daily goals--- it just leaves you with a "not-so-good" feeling.
The other component of this challenge is learning to CONNECT the mind, body and spirit. They are always working together. I see so many gyms and fitness studios market themselves like this: LOSE 10 POUNDS for Bikini SEASON, Get Ready for that Beach Body...
You will NEVER hear our studio tell you to get ready for Bikini Season, simply because we are practicing at a much higher level of awareness. YES, we have a physical body and to honor this vessel is one of the most important roles in our time here, but learning HOW to connect it to the mind and spirit is the ONLY way we will UNDERSTAND WHY we are holding on to weight, or WHY we are constantly getting sick, or feeling sad or lonely or fearful or stuck.....
I highly recommend Louise Hay's Book You Can Heal Your Life. Her belief system has been forever tattooed in my being. She believes that for every physical ailment, there is an emotional/mental ROOT problem. If we forever ignore our bodies, mask our symptoms with pain killers and antibiotics--we are literally telling our body to SHUT UP and we begin to hold on to things that don't serve us--- i.e WEIGHT being one of them.
One client shared a story that she had recently had strep throat. She had been trying to drop some weight and continued to do all the "right things", working out, eating right and so on. She decided to look up what strep throat meant and it affirmed that she might need to speak her truth regarding something. She knew exactly what it pertained to. Putting Ego and Fear Aside, she spoke up--feeling like the weight of the world had been lifted off of her. The next day she weighed herself and had lost 2lbs ;) Coincidence? Maybe :)
This week's mini-challenge for the girls was to write a letter to the NEW SELF they already are in the process of being. This was written by Anne Patacao, one of our challenge ladies. It is so beautifully written, It gives me chills:
My Darling Annie,
I want to start this note by telling you, you are a beautiful , charismatic, caring, loving, giving person. Remember you are exactly where you are meant to be, be patient, focus and stay positive!
You are capable of anything you put your mind to, look at how far you've come :)
Don't be afraid to let go of anything that no longer brings you joy. Take time for yourself and do the things that bring you joy. Be Happy!!! Be kind to others, but remember don't give to much. This isn't the end of your journey, its a new way of life. Continue to evolve yourself into who you want to be. BE HAPPY YOUR WORTH IT! Remember to live your life for yourself .....
"perpetual optimism is a force multiplier."
Always stay true to yourself.
I am so proud of each of you! If anyone would like more information about our next challenge, please feel free to email me! Ando@mindbodybarre.com
Many of you know I come from a background and upbringing of metaphysical, holistic and spiritual thoughts. If you have ever taken our classes, you have experience our signature Reiki Healing Cool Down™, you’ve heard my end of class musings and you have possibly even had an intuitive reading from me (I can’t help it; sometimes my guides step in and sort of “take over”)
Someone asked me the other day, “How do you stay so centered? So calm? So, “in tune” all the time?”
The answer is, I don’t. I’d be lying if I told you I did. I think that’s the biggest hurdle that people need to get over when coming to Mind Body Barre™, they think we are the just the “calming-spiritual-fitness-place”, where if they go, they will suddenly know and understand all; and when you find yourself getting angry, frustrated or fearful about something you feel guilty or even more angry about it.
Here’s my secret: We are all on a different spiritual path, and when we find ourselves having those “human moments”, it’s important to ‘Check Yourself Before you Wreck Yourself’
With that said, I believe that we are all spiritual beings having a physical experience, and not the other way around. We are here to have this human experience and to share it with each other. When you start your spiritual journey, you begin to see how connected your mind, body and spirit really are.
When you begin to value your link to the collective consciousness and your opening to your own divine inspiration, you begin to see how incredibly connected we all are; how our limitations in which we create are the only illusions that separate us.
Here is an example:
This past Christmas I went to New York and as we were walking the crowded streets, we saw several homeless people picking through trash. I remember feeling sad, as I do when I see it in our own city and thinking, “How am I any different from that woman digging through the trash?”
The answer is simple, I am that homeless woman. And if I am that homeless woman, than I am also someone who is out there working very hard struggling to feed their family, I am part of everything I have ever disliked, disagreed with, been frustrated with or felt saddened by including contributing to the pollution of our planet; In essence, I am everything that is wrong with the world today simply because we are all energetically connected.
Now if on some level this sounds confusing…It is when you think left brain about it. Forget what you have learned about being analytical, practical and decisive for a moment and open up to the idea that what you say, think, do and believe holds an energetic vibration, and when you put it out into the world (you do whether you know it or not!) it affects the world around you, people, trees, plants and any other living organism.
We are all undoubtedly going to have those “human moments” where you do something out of fear, anger or frustration (feeling hate for someone or something, worrying that there will never be enough jobs, you will never have the perfect relationship, having an attitude that someone is always out to get you or that you will never have enough money or time to do the things you love). For as long as you are human, you will have those moments of judgment- but you will always have the power and control to shift your energy to a loving place. To actually have love and compassion for everything that is wrong with world today. When you start to shift your awareness, you are able to raise the vibration of energy so that we can all prosper together. There is no such thing as “never having enough”, if we are all connected than we are all in this together. Know that each time you feel angry or hateful toward something, you are not only affecting your energy, but everyone around you.
Learn to acknowledge your feelings when you are angry or frustrated, hold yourself accountable, be gentle with your feelings and most importantly, send love to those who have hurt you or angered you. Most importantly, when you find yourself resonating on a low energetic frequency, “Check Yourself, Before You Wreck Yourself” in an energetic spiral! After All, LMFAO says, “Stop. Hatin is bad!”
