Somehow, we went from fall to winter in a matter of moments? Somehow I went shopping for Halloween decorations for our house party on Saturday and there were suddenly Christmas decorations everywhere!? And somehow these past two weeks flew by faster than the speed of light. Here is a re-cap of what has been going on at Mind Body Barre™…
On Monday, October 24th we had our STRIDE for HOPE event at the studio, where we raised funds for the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Having two classes back-to-back (Mind Body Barre followed by STRIDE-Shaun T’s Real Intense Dance Exercise) there were many of you who stayed to show support by double dipping, double sessions! An incredible amount of support has been shown by each of you, whether you attended the event, sent us a text message saying you were thinking of us or whether you were there is spirit, we cannot thank you enough; and as I said in class, one person really can make a difference.
The rest of the week was a whirlwind of newness! Lot’s of new people visiting our studio, and it has been so great getting know all of you. Each time you walk through those doors, you instantly become part of a much greater consciousness, here to help raise the energetic vibration of our planet, making it better, brighter, more beautiful and stronger. I feel so honored to know each of you.
On Saturday, Mia (the newest member to the Mind Body Barre™ Team- who you will all be introduced to very shortly in an upcoming email!) gave a great treatment one of our clients. Mia is an exceptional healer, bringing to us her skills of Master Reflexology, Reiki Healing, and Touch Therapy. I am very excited to have her presence in our studio.
Michelle, the winner of our LOVE Your Body Challenge, has been doing an incredible job; attending class regularly and totally gaining strength and stamina. More to come on this later!
Being that today is Halloween and Monday, most of the Halloween festivities occurred over the weekend. My boyfriend and I decided to have a house party on Saturday where we decided to go “all-out” with decorations. We had everything from fog machines, strobe lights, spider webs, full out dance music/dance floor, cackling witches to the most amazing drinks and food- and who could of course forget the winning Halloween costume of the evening- MC HAMMER (picture below)
So what does my silly Halloween party have to do with Mind Body Barre™ Fitness & Healing Studio? My point is, that life can fly by so quickly (as the week did!), and we can so easily get caught up in our everyday responsibilities- which is why it is so important to take some time for yourself to have some fun and spend time with loved ones!
I’d also like to share with you an important lesson regarding LISTENING TO YOUR BODY! On Saturday, I knew I had to run around and get ready for this party- and my body kept telling me slow down, eat and take a nap from the crazy week I had. I stubbornly ignored my intuition on sleep- and today I am paying for it with a sore throat and sniffly nose! Long Story Short- LISTEN TO YOUR BODY!
You can expect a fun Halloween evening later tonight at the studio, filled with little tricks-and-treats.
Blessed Samhain Everyone!
Many of you may have heard about our LOVE Your Body (Like Never Before…) Challenge. This is a 60 day challenge designed and formulated by our team of fitness instructors, healers and therapists to dramatically promote loving yourself from the inside out, physically, spiritually and mentally. To kick off this 60 day challenge we decided to encourage our clients, fans, friends and their friends to write to us and tell us WHY they were worth winning the LOVE Your Body Challenge.
The winner of this challenge receives 30 fitness class credits, nutritional information, guidance, & analysis, guided meditations, chakra balancing, one career intuitive counseling session, reiki, intuitive readings, measurements of the transformation of the body, before and after pictures, exclusive fit tips, recipes and daily inspirations.
This over $600 value was given away to our winner, Michelle Oliveira. Michelle’s story showed a tremendous amount of commitment, compassion and honoring a time of transition in her life. We were compelled to choose her as our inspiration and catalyst for many other women, who choose to ignore what it is their intuition, feelings and inner guidance is telling them.
With Michelle as our challenge winner, she is already living proof that everything begins within you. You are the only person who is the keeper of your key; you are the only person who can unlock your own true potential of what it is you so desire.
So just how is it going so far?
Last week we kicked off the challenge with “before” pictures, body measurements and a brief consultation about what it is Michelle is looking to achieve. So far Michelle has taken many of the different types of classes we offer, 5 in total.
In just one week, I am seeing her transform her awareness about fitness. If you take my class, I’m a broken record of reminders about how working out starts inward- through balance and breath, that our physical bodies are only manifestations of thoughts from the past. Here is quick blurb of what Michelle wrote to me last week (notice how her perspective changes at the end…)
I won the love your body challenge at Mind Body Barre and I have to say it’s really hard to love your body when you’re not happy with it…
I have to say I feel great! I feel like I have a little more energy and that’s just after the first few days imagine how I will feel when I’ve been doing this exercise thing consistently for a month LOL!!! I am pleased with myself for now. It’s just baby steps but I know once this challenge is done I will feel much better about myself.
As I go through this journey with Michelle, I also feel like I am in part on your journey too. You all teach me something powerful each day; we are built of so many intricate facets- the human body and brain, the mind, the spirit, layers of emotion and all the different characters we must play to different people; mother, daughter, sister, wife, friend, father, brother, husband and so on. Each of you shows a powerful message just by walking through our studio doors, to honor the essence of your divine being and who you are for your own hour.
Interested in being part of our journey?! You can follow Michelle’s weekly progress here!
It always seems that the weekend comes and goes too fast. And so often to we forget to reflect and recapture the moments that captivate our souls. With that said, I feel the urge to share these moments with all of you.
This past weekend, Mind Body Barre™ had the honor of being part of the Annual Flames of Hope Water Fire Event. It can be difficult to describe a moment that has touched you so deeply that you will forever be enchanted by.
Saturday was the most beautiful day outside and it seemed that some divine source had graciously shined the sun’s warmth down upon us. If you follow “The Secret” or know anything about the flow of energy, you will understand when I tell you how the day played out. From the time I parked my car with my mother to the end of the night, everything seemed to flow energetically and I could feel each of us raising the energetic vibration.
As we were gathering together the things out of our car that we needed to bring over to our table (a half mile walk, don’t ask me why we didn’t use the “loading dock” :) ) a woman, who introduced herself as Julie, asked us if we needed any help carrying items to our table. Wishing we had more hands, we graciously accepted her help! As we walked over to our table we learned she would be running in the 5k event the next day, a race that would help to raise money for the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation-where the funds are used right in the local community.
Walking toward our tent, the Flames of Hope Village was a sea of pink. Our table was located in the Healing Garden which was the most beautifully manicured Zen Garden with Koi Fish, herbs and stones. We were in the tent with many other healers, reiki therapists, and light workers. There was even a group with signs that said, “FREE HUGS”. I think I felt every possible emotion on Saturday, love, hope, sadness, anger, anxiety, gratitude and the list just goes on.
Each time I would speak with someone, on a soul level, I felt like I had reconnected with ancestors through consciousness. Seeing Gary Calvino, the Director of Development, for the Gloria Gemma Foundation, run around in his pink jumpsuit, pink crocodile shoes, and spray painted pink hair would make anyone look twice; but there was something very magical about his interactions with people- like Santa with children on Christmas. Gary’s energy is so special, yet unexplainable, and there is no denying it when you are in his presence.
Hearing stories from survivors, seeing the hurt, love, hope, strength and determination on their faces is remarkable. The Illuminations of Life Ceremony was beautiful, words cannot describe.
For so many of you, in some way you have been affected by this disease. I wanted to let each of you know that you have all directly or indirectly touched my heart. There are so, so, SO many stories from Saturday that I could go on and on about, but I wanted to make each of you aware that you are beautiful, your intentions do shape your future and others, and just as Julie’s helping hand, your small acts of kindness are not small at all; they go much further than you could even possibly imagine.
To my mother, Wanda who has made the healing part of our studio possible. Mia (who many of you met at our event this past weekend) who is a wealth of compassion, love and wisdom. Kelsey (the girl who gets things DONE!) for our beautiful Pink Logo T-shirts and your volunteer time. Tony Dettorre- the "go-to" promotional logo and flyer extraordinaire! Gary Calvino and Maria Gemma who continue to inspire and uplift our community. And a special thanks to The Universe for your divine timing and loving support.
A few months ago I purchased a pair of jeans from Express; my favorite pair had accidentally been put into the pile to be thrown out/donated in the midst of a major cleaning overhaul last September (The saddest day was when I went to wear them and realized they were nowhere to be found)
These “new” jeans were the kind you put on then immediately take off because something is just “not right”. I always seem to have a major issue when looking for pants. Because I have bigger thighs and calves (If we were ever stranded with no food, my calves could probably feed a whole third world country….) the smaller size always seems to make me look like someone stuffed me into a sausage casing but the waist fits perfect. If I go up a size, the legs fit but anyone sitting behind me gets a free show of my hanky panky undies since the waist is too big.
Frustrated by my hasty purchase of the larger sized jean (in effort to fit my muscular thighs) I took them off, refolded them and placed them back in the drawer.
The next morning I went to teach barre class at Mind Body Barre. My daily routine there consists of booting up the computer, checking emails, blogging and social networking for the studio. One of my favorite blogs, is the barre n9ne studio blog. For those of you who have friends that live on the Northshore, barre n9ne is barre studio founded by my good friend Tanya. Tanya recently wrote this blog post about how if you’re not satisfied with something, RETURN IT- Including your BODY. She says bring your body to barre n9ne and return for the one you want! Brilliant! Not only did this inspire me to return my pants for a size that FIT, but it has also inspired me to share this with all of you! You can change the circumstance you are in! If you are not happy, DO something about it!
I encourage you all to read/follow her blog!
GO TANYA! :)
Take a Class!
