When I first stumbled upon Rehoboth a few years ago, I have to admit I didn't see the potential of the beauty in this town right away. A city loving girl, I didn't quite appreciate this small farm town and all it has to offer.
Two years later I am sinking my feet in the dirt, feeling the energy from the trees, smelling the spring air crisp and ripe with blossoms, loving horse farms and the local vendors selling goodies in their backyards.
I truly look forward to this time of year. All winter I’ve been shopping at the local grocery store, but yesterday I got a taste (literally!) of all that the coming spring and summer months will have to offer.
Meet Sue & Jeff Olson, the owners of A Summer Place Farm right here in Rehoboth they are your local summer fruit and vegetable growers, with chickens for your fresh eggs too! In fact, they are too humble to even let me take a picture of them but they nicely invited me to their backyard operation, gardens as far as the eye can see. It’s your perfect storybook photo, fresh greens growing, Jeff working hard in the back, the dog and cat enjoying the sun and chickens running around in the coop.
I was impressed; this is definitely the life to live. Upon leaving Sue gave me some homemade breads and goodies, fresh produce and eggs. All I can say is knowing that everything I am putting into my body is FRESH and local makes a difference. Those veggies and eggs are sooo damn good it’s worth writing home about.
Buy Fresh, Buy Local! And you can by “liking” A Summer Place Farm on Facebook or stopping by 389 Tremont Street, Rehoboth, MA to pick up fresh produce!
Sue & Jeff are also offering a CSA (Community Shared Agriculture) from June 8th-October 19th for only $26 per week.
